The Smart City Budapest initiative has come a very exciting way in the last 7 years, and this website summarizes the results of this period and makes it searchable for everyone. The initiative was managed by Mindspace team. We have always been interested in the concept of a livable city, and luckily we had several major tender projects that have helped us run the site and create fresh content. The page will no longer be updated from 2021, so there may be information on the page that is no longer current.

The project was a great way to share our experiences of working with markets in urban areas.

For the past two years (2018-19), we have been trying to shake up Rákóczi square in the VIIIth district of Budapest. In October we had our final mini-festival, the 5th Rákóczisquaring.

Relaunching Rákóczi Community Breakfast

We kicked off the new season by reimagining BRFK Gallery. The new place, called Rákócity became an urban lab with exhibitions and project focusing on the neighbourhood.

During September 13-14 2019 Mindspace visited Katowice along with Marek Ladiver from Stara Trznica, Bratislava. The main task was to meet with Stowarzyszenie FIL - a local civil organization in Nikiszowiec and have discussion about each others' situation and to exchange views. Nikiszowiec.

Rákóczi Reggeli

It’s been two years since we started to be actively present in and around Rákóczi Market Hall. With the beginning of the new year we were curious how the market and its workers received our ideas and events, so we went around and interviewed them. We wanted to know how much they know Mindspace as an organization and our work, and also how they see the market hall, its present and future. We interviewed more than 20 people.

The former BRFK photo gallery was reborn as a local experimental club called Rákócity. The first program included jungle vibes, calmness and lots of green.

Last year, the first Mindspace voluntary meeting was held, which proved to be popular. That's why it took place again, this year on February 4th, in the big hall of Lumen Cafe. The Mindspace team has been surprised, as more than 60 people have appeared and many have joined as a volunteer.

Old Market Hall of Bratislava

While the weather was still sunny in October, our intern team consisting of five people went on a day trip to Bratislava, Slovakia to meet The Old Market Hall Alliance team and explore The Old Market Hall of Bratislava (Stara Tržnica).

On October 8, 2018, Mindspace team met with Food Not Bombs Budapest, a volunteer-based organization, to learn more about the organization and opportunities for cooperation.

With this article, you can see how we started renewing our work with the market from the beginning of spring and how the rest of the summer went.

In the Mindspace’s Sensing The Space Workshop series, the neighbourhood of the Palace and Hall Quarter was explored in a playful and experimental way.
